Quality Improvement

The aim of the MSSA program is to help hospitals identify areas in their medication safety systems that can be enhanced. The MSSA assists by narrowing the focus of quality improvement activities towards medication safety interventions which will likely have the most impact.

Hospitals that use the online database can visualise in which key element or core characteristic they scored lowest, and drill down to identify the items that contributed to these results. Once a list of elements that require most improvement have been compiled, hospitals can prioritise interventions according to:

  1. Degree of control over this item at the hospital level.
  2. The weight of the item - higher weighted items are deemed to be the most effective.
  3. Resources required to make the change.

Once a list is compiled we recommend you develop a quality improvement plan to implement the required changes.
