Person centred care

Person centred care is one of the six dimensions of healthcare quality and is the foundation of a high reliability healthcare system. It refers to the whole person, going beyond the narrow focus on their symptoms and treatment, and applies a holistic approach to care that acknowledges the wider social, psychological, societal and cultural factors that may affect the individual and their healthcare journey. This includes incorporating the patient's family and/or carer in decision making to the extent the patient chooses.

The CEC has developed a range of evidence-based resources to support healthcare teams to deliver person centred care. These resources will also assist healthcare services to meet the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. Please explore the links below and our webpages on teamwork and wellbeing to access these resources.
