Sepsis

This toolkit provides information, resources and quality improvement (QI) tools for managers and clinicians to improve sepsis care in NSW health services. The resources may be adapted to suit local needs that is, for initial implementation, to review and improve current practices or support current practice.

Within the CEC Sepsis program, there are four sepsis pathways for adult, paediatric, maternal and newborn populations.

The toolkit uses general principles that can be applied to any of these pathways.

The contents of the toolkit are not exhaustive and health services are encouraged to adapt and build on the resources to suit their local context. It is strongly recommended that project teams connect with their local QI/clinical governance units to seek support for the project and access local QI experts.

To join the Sepsis Quality Improvement Community of Practice (hosted via the Quality Improvement Data System - QIDS) the project team must first complete the online registration form. Following this, the CEC will add the project team to the Sepsis Toolkit Improvement Project in QIDS.

Via QIDS, project teams will be able to:

  • Access additional resources and QI tools, including sepsis specific examples
  • Manage their own improvement project
  • Collaborate with other teams undertaking sepsis improvement.

The QIDS icon icon is used throughout the toolkit to indicate when and how to use QIDS for your improvement project. To help differentiate:

CEC icon Refers to the CEC Team – all the sepsis resources and examples referred to in the toolkit and more can be found via the leading team page.
