Infection Prevention and Control Practice Handbook

The NSW Health Infection Prevention and Control Policy establishes the infection prevention and control mandatory standards for NSW health organisations (HOs) including Affiliated Health Organisations. Whereas the handbook provides practical day-to-day guidance to support the implementation of NSW Health Infection Prevention and Control Policy directive.

The handbook is set out in 11 sections based on risk assessment approach to establish the context, identify, assess, and control the risks of infection and review the effectiveness of control measures. This handbook should also be read in conjunction with the most current version of the Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare – by National Health and Medical Research Council in collaboration with the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare (the Commission).
