Introduction Course to Restorative Practices Workshops

Two workshop options:
17-18 June 2024 (Level 4, Christie Spaces, North Sydney) and
19-20 June 2024 (Level 6, 1 Reserve Road, St Leonards)

The Introduction to Restorative Skills Workshop is designed to provide the following learning outcomes:
- Critically evaluate the impacts of embedded responses to healthcare harm and the human
needs that arise from them. - Explore restorative principles and practices and how they might be applied within the health system context to mitigate and respond to healthcare harm.
- Identify appropriate restorative considerations following severe or complex harm to patients, health professionals, organisations, and communities in mental health settings.
- Explore the factors critical for cultural safety, equity, and partnership with Aboriginal peoples in the aftermath of healthcare harm and within a restorative process.
- Understand how restorative concepts and factors critical for a restorative outcome following an adverse event might be applied during the phases of disclosure, preparation, facilitation, resolution, and change.
- An introductory exploration to the skills required to support disclosure, facilitation and follow up within the context of adverse events.
- Practice triage of real cases to determine when restorative approach is not appropriate and/or when specialised support is required.

LHD/SHN staff involved in implementing a move towards restorative approaches are invited to register for the workshop:
- Aboriginal Health Managers,
- MHS Directors,
- Clinical Directors,
- Nurse Unit Managers,
- Peer Workers/Lived Experience,
- Directors of Clinical Governance,
- Quality and Safety Managers and
- Directors of Workforce.
