Blood is a precious but limited resource. Although very safe, the use of blood carries inherent risks and there is strong evidence associating blood transfusion with adverse outcomes including increased morbidity, mortality and length of stay.
To address these issues, Blood Watch is committed to supporting the sustainable, responsible, safe and appropriate use of blood and blood products.
Through a collaborative approach, the program provides leadership and support in quality care, clinical safety and supply security of blood and blood products to achieve world class transfusion medicine practice in NSW.
Blood Watch key partners include clinicians and health care workers, local health districts and specialty networks, the NSW Ministry of Health, the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, NSW Health Pathology and the National Blood Authority.
