QIDS Maternity Intelligence System (QIDS MatIQ)

QIDS Maternity Intelligence System (QIDS) MatIQ provides near real-time maternal and newborn data insights back to clinicians. The QIDS MatIQ visualisations (trend and multilocation reports) are up to date (containing data from births that occurred as recently as last week) and can be customised to local needs.

Birth data is uploaded from eMaternity and Cerner Maternity sources weekly and QIDS MatIQ is updated every Friday with the new data. It contains birth information from all public hospital sites across NSW, from January 2019 onwards (already over 300,000 births) and is being used by clinicians in every maternity hospital across the state to create dashboards using the established QIDS framework. Maternal and newborn outcome trends can be generated and visualised through QIDS MatIQ in a matter of seconds and insights gained by viewing data at LHD, hospital or patient level.

The QIDS MatIQ team, which includes medical, midwifery and data expertise, are engaging with clinicians and data managers across NSW's LHDs to educate staff and support practice improvement projects in maternity care using QIDS MatIQ.

What is QIDS?

The Quality Improvement Data System (QIDS) provides users at all levels of an organisation with a single point of access to information and enables users to translate raw data into insights such as current outcomes, trends over time, unwanted clinical variation, harm, and outcome measures of improvement innovations. QIDS MatIQ sits within this QIDS platform.

How can I access QIDS and QIDS MatIQ?

Local user access is managed by your local Clinical Governance Unit. Please contact cec-qidsmatiq@health.nsw.gov.au and julianne.jones@health.nsw.gov.au for further information and details on setting up your QIDS MatIQ access.
