King's Birthday Honours for Board Chair and Colleagues

Clinical Excellence Commission Board Chair Prof Andrew Wilson has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in the King's Birthday Honours 2023 for his service to medicine through public health leadership, support of regulatory bodies and to tertiary education.

Prof Wilson has been a CEC Board Member since 2014 and was named Chair in 2021. His extensive career includes being a co-director at the University of Sydney Menzies Centre for Health Policy and Economics since 2013 and co-director of the National Health and Medical Research Council Australian Prevention Partnership Centre.

Clinical Excellence Commission Chief Executive Prof Michael Nicholl warmly congratulated Prof Wilson on the recognition and said he was honoured to work alongside a colleague of such an outstanding calibre.

"We see such dedication from colleagues who work across health and tirelessly support our efforts improving safety and quality in healthcare," Prof Nicholl said.

"This recognition in the King's Birthday Honours for a number of our colleagues is testament to the very high level of expertise, commitment and dedicated service we are privileged to be partnered with."

Other colleagues also recognised in the 2023 honours include Prof Philip Boyce who has worked on the CEC Maternal & Perinatal Mortality Committee and Dr Michele O'Brien who was a member of SCIDUA for many years before her recent retirement.

Prof Boyce and Dr O'Brien who were recognised as Members of the Order of Australia for their respective significant services to the community in their chosen specialities of psychiatric research and education and medicine, particularly anaesthesia.
