Prof Jacqueline Close awarded a Member of the Order of Australia

Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC) Board Member Prof Jacqueline Close has been awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) on 26 January 2024 for her significant service to medical research and to medicine as an orthogeriatrician.

Prof Close has been a member of the CEC Board since 2016. She is a consultant in orthogeriatrics at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney, and Clinical Director of the Falls, Balance and Injury Research Centre at Neuroscience Research Australia.

Prof Close said; “I am delighted and honoured to receive this recognition for a job I love doing and with the people I work alongside”.

CEC Chief Executive Prof Michael Nicholl congratulated Prof Close.

"This recognition is well deserved for a colleague who has worked tirelessly and passionately in her chosen clinical field," Prof Nicholl said.

“We are honoured to have Prof Close on the Board, working with us to provide guidance and strategic oversight of the CEC's leadership on patient safety and clinical quality across the NSW Health system.

Prof Close has published more than 150 papers. Her research is currently focused on injury prevention in dementia, hip fracture care and care of older people in surgery. She sits on a number of state and national committees in relation to older people, and is the co-chair of the ANZ Hip Fracture Registry Steering Group.
