Together Achieving Better Health Conference – Nepean Blue Mountains Event

9 November 2018

Clinical Excellence Commission's Chief Executive, Carrie Marr, and Director of Development, Alison Starr, attended the Together Achieving Better Health Conference, hosted by Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

At the Conference, Ms. Marr's presentation, Reliable Healthcare is a Journey, not a Destination, was heard by a range of health professionals from across NSW.

Emphasising the CEC's focus on providing patient-centred care, Carrie stated "Your first conversation is with your patient, and that sets the tone for what really matters".

She reiterated the importance of making these two areas habit in order to implement change, stating; "Quality and safety are habits. Your habits are what will drive the change needed. If your staff see the habits in you, they will take them on themselves".

Alison Starr also facilitated a workshop at the event, titled "Sharing solutions with improvement science: Tools for creating improvement in patient care".

The short workshop provided an overview of tools available to create, test and apply ideas to improve the safety and quality of care, including flowcharts, cause and effect diagrams, driver diagrams, measurement and rapid Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles to test improvements quickly. The learnings were further illustrated through examples of processes and results achieved with the Collaborative methodology in NSW.

You can watch Carrie Marr's presentation in full. Carrie's presentation begins at the 38 minute mark.
